sensory room experience

At the Football Association of Wales, we are passionate about continuing to work toward an environment in Football where everyone has an equal opportunity, is included, and feels that they belong. One of the services we provide at every Cymru home fixture is the sensory room experience.

What does the sensory room offer?

The Sensory Room at the Cardiff City Stadium has been developed by specialist staff from Cardiff City FC Foundation and designed to accommodate the needs of children and young people with additional sensory needs, providing a safe space with a range of calming sights, sounds and apparatus. The facility is specially equipped to allow those with neurodiversity conditions such as autism spectrum disorder to feel more comfortable and welcomed at the stadium, giving them a safe space to avoid the business and sometimes overwhelming environment of a match day.

Supporters using the sensory room will have the ability to transition between two sensory rooms, one with a full viewing window of the pitch and the other behind which provides a quieter space without a view of the pitch. Your seats will also be allocated directly outside of the sensory room, in the stadium bowl should you wish to view the game from your seat.

The Sensory Room has been developed with the generous cooperation of Cardiff City FC and Premier League Charitable Fund support. The artwork was designed by Rianne Rowlands and also had financial backing from Cardiff City Supporter’s Trust.

Location

Located on Level 3 of the Grandstand in the South corner of the Cardiff City Stadium, you will be allocated tickets in front of the sensory room.

There is a lift within the Gate 16 entrance that can be used if anyone has any mobility issues and Level 3 is also accessible for wheelchair users. There are accessible toilets and hoists available if required, however, we cannot provide personal care for spectators.

How do I enquire about making a booking?

The room can be booked on a match-by-match basis. There is limited space in the room so booking is required, however, we will try and accommodate all requests to use the room subject to availability. Use of the sensory room is available for both Men’s and Women’s International fixtures held at the Cardiff City Stadium. Parents and guardians will have the option to visit the room before matchday if they wish to check its suitability.
