Celebrating Diversity

Does the Club celebrate different cultural, religious and awareness events?

A good way to connect with and create a welcoming environment for people from different communities including cultural, religious and ethnically diverse backgrounds is to acknowledge important dates, festivals and celebrations.

Some examples of how you can celebrate these days or periods using the FAW's Diversity Calendar are:

  • Send a message out on your Club’s social media channels and website highlighting the day or period.
  • Email/message all your members to acknowledge the day and invite everyone to celebrate.
  • Host an event inviting people from the local community to join in to celebrate the day, collaborating closely with the community related to the day. (i.e Mulsim community to host an Iftar event).
  • Invite people at the Club or local community from the culture or religion to talk about the traditions or background of the day being celebrated.

Using a range of inclusive and representative imagery across your Club’s communications is also a great way to both celebrate diversity but also to highlight that different communities are welcome at your Club.

Sometimes seeing another person at the Club or in the Club’s communications who is visibly similar and relatable to someone can be the difference in an individual being attracted to your Club or not.

This can help them to be confident that they will be welcome and included as a member and to feel that they will belong at the Club.
