Football v Homophobia Month Of Action 2023

Throughout the Month of February, the Football Association of Wales (FAW) will be marking both LGBTQ+ history month and the Football v Homophobia (FvH) Month of Action.

The FvH initiative unities football in opposing homophobia and prejudice against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) people in football, whilst celebrating and welcoming diversity across the game.

The FAW will be continuing its support of the FvH Month of Action and encouraging all Clubs to sign up to receive their campaign pack, dedicating a fixture in support of Football v Homophobia, whilst continuing to highlight a welcoming environment for all at their Club.

FvH will be offering a number of opportunities throughout the Month of Action for Clubs across Wales to continue to improve their education in this area.

The FAW will use its platform to highlight LGBTQ+ challenges and barriers across the game, in addition to working toward a future where everyone, everywhere in Wales feels as though they belong in the game.

During the month of action, the FAW will be hosting an hour-long webinar titled “Making your football club more LGBTIQ+ inclusive for clubs” in Wales which aims to provide an introduction to LGBTIQ+ inclusive practice. The webinar includes a 40-minute presentation and 20-minute Q&A session. The aims of the webinar include:

  • Introduction to LGBTIQ+ identities
  • What we know about LGBTIQ+ people in sport & wider society
  • Barriers to inclusion
  • Facilitating LGBTIQ+ inclusion
  • The workshop will take place online via Zoom and is limited in numbers.
